Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi has paid an emotional tribute to his longtime bodyguard, Corporal John Lwane Lumumba, following his sudden death, describing the loss as deeply personal and painful.

In a heartfelt statement shared on X on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Kingi reflected on the shock of losing someone he considered more than just part of his security detail, but a trusted companion and family member.

“Gone too soon, my young brother. The cruel hand of death has snatched you so fast. One minute we are having a walk and chatting jovially, and the next minute I’m called to be informed that you are no more,” Kingi wrote

Kingi’s words paint a picture of a close working relationship that had grown into a strong personal bond.

For years, Lumumba stood quietly in the background, providing protection and support as Kingi carried out his public duties. But behind the scenes, the two shared conversations, daily routines, and moments that built trust beyond the call of duty.

In his tribute, Kingi made it clear that Lumumba’s role went far beyond professional responsibility, emphasising the human connection they had formed over time.

“To me, you were not just a bodyguard, you were family. I admired the way you discharged your duty with utmost dedication, professionalism and loyalty,” Kingi wrote
