Alai hits back at Moses Kuria over fears of political goons
Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has launched a sharp response to Chama Cha Kazi Party leader Moses Kuria following his recent warning that the use of political goons poses a major threat to Kenya’s democracy and security ahead of the 2026–2027 political cycle.
Alai, reacting through a statement posted on X on Saturday, January 3, 2025, called out Kuria for hypocrisy, arguing that leaders who once celebrated political violence now want to distance themselves from the same tactics.

His response directly references Kuria’s warning, questioning the sincerity of leaders who previously defended or ignored such practices when it suited their political interests.
In his reaction, Alai suggested that the sudden concern over political goons was misplaced and selective, especially coming from figures who once applauded their use.
“The people who cheered goons being used to forcibly circumcise their opponents are suddenly fearful of goons,” he wrote
Alai went further to personalise his criticism, accusing Kuria of underestimating the public’s memory and intelligence when it comes to past political conduct.

“Yaani Moses Kuria sees everyone as a fool. He cheered the nonsense before,” he wrote
The MCA also questioned the timing of Kuria’s alarm, particularly the reference to the diplomatic community and international accountability, suggesting that global standards did not suddenly emerge overnight.
“Those days diplomatic community didn’t exist in Kenya? Or they approved the nonsense because your tribesmen were at the helm?” he stated
Moses Kuria on Political goons
Moses Kuria, in his earlier post, warned against the use of goons in 2026 and 2027 as political temperature in the country rises heading into the next general election in 2027.
The former Trade Cabinet Secretary cautioned that going the goons’ way will lead some politicians into the corridors of justice at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

”The biggest risk to Kenya’s security and democracy is the use of goons as tools of political Mobilisation in 2026 and 2027. I have talked to several friends from the Diplomatic Community. I can tell you without fear of contradiction that some people will end up at the ICC. This time round, no witnesses will disappear!” Kuria wrote.
