Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) has refuted claims that it abets are abetting doping cases in athletics in the country as reported in a seven-minute video released by German’s television channel ZDF titled ‘Kenya’s Doping Scene’.

A source, purporting to be a manager at ADAK detailed to a ZDF reporter how the agency is compromised as athletes take performance-enhancing drugs with testing officers being accused of taking bribes to cover up doping activities.

“They hide results from various athletes, so that an athlete cannot be banned. AK and ADAK work together and make money from it. The athletes or their managers have to pay for it,” part of the ZDF report stated.

ZDF also claimed to be in possession of official documents from Athletics Kenya in which a high-ranking employee has written to a well-known athletics manager whose athlete’s A and B tests are positive asking for a meeting to discuss the way forward as AK has the ability to ensure the freedom of a suspended athlete.

In a communiqué to media houses, ADAK Chief Executive Officer Japhter Rugut said the information in the report regarding the agency is inaccurate and factually defective.

“Samples are collected and transferred for analysing in World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratories.

The results are reported in the Anti-Doping Administration and Management Systems (ADAMS) which is a highly secure web-based database management tool for data entry, storage, sharing and reporting designed to assist Stakeholders and WADA in their operations,” said Rugut.
