Renowned Kenyan actor Pete Openda is dead

Pete passed away on Friday after a long battle with cancer.

According to production company Insignia Productions, one of the top production companies in Kenya that he worked with on a number of movies and television shows, Pete was for many years a hardworking and talented actor, who executed his roles excellently.

“I am heartbroken. I remember we met him at a restaurant and we were like, ‘we have been watching your expressions, we think you can act’. He was right in the middle of lunch with a client and had never thought of acting” said Insignia director Philippe Bresson.

“He was creeped out by us, but he took on the role we offered him on Changing Times in 2008. We have worked together on many projects after, but our connection was beyond work. He worked with us from the beginning of Insignia Productions and supported us when we just started out. He gave me business advice and genuinely cared about me. Man, this one hurts; he was a real one. R.I.P,” he added.

The actor is known for his acting prowess in TV shows such as Changing Times, New Beginnings (South Africa and Nigeria) and Arnold & Bundi, among a host of others.

Pete has also worked with Ivory Media, a video production company in Kenya, as well as Spielworks Media.

May he Rest In Peace.
