2 feared dead after lorry plunges into river along Kaplong-Bomet highway
Two people are feared dead after a lorry carrying three occupants lost control and plunged into a river along the Bomet-Kaplong Highway in a tragic early morning accident.
The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, when the vehicle veered off the road before crashing into the river.
Pictures seen by People Daily show the vehicle overturned in the river as rescue operations are in progress to recover the lorry.

One person survived the devastating crash and was immediately rushed to Kaplong Hospital, where they are receiving emergency treatment for their injuries.
Authorities are yet to reveal the identities of the victims.

Kisumu-Busia accident
This accident comes barely a week after one person was confirmed dead in an accident involving a passenger bus and a long-distance truck near Lela along the Kisumu-Busia Highway.
Confirming the Monday, August 11, 2025, accident, Nyanza regional traffic police officer Peter Maina indicated that six others were injured.
“We have lost one person, and six other people have been seriously injured. Among them are three men and three children. We are in the process of assessing those who have sustained minor injuries in the accident,” Maina said.
Coptic roundabout accident
The accident comes just days after a bus carrying 61 people who were relatives coming from a funeral in Nyahera, Kisumu West sub-county, and were en route to Nyakach, was involved in a devastating road crash along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.
According to a statement from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), which received all the victims, 19 bodies were brought in directly from the crash scene.

The remaining victims, including a male child, died while receiving treatment, bringing the total death toll to 26.
“Staff at JOOTRH moved swiftly this evening to receive and save the lives of survivors from a tragic road accident that occurred at the Coptic roundabout area along the Kisumu-Kakamega road,” the hospital reported.
