2 arrested in Suswa as police recover cannabis, illicit alcohol in narcotics crackdown

Anti-narcotics detectives from Nakuru and Narok counties have arrested two persons of interest and recovered a haul of illegal drugs and illicit alcohol in a coordinated operation at Suswa trading centre.

The two were apprehended following intelligence-led surveillance that linked them to narcotics trafficking activities in the area. The operation was conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on May 2, 2026, officers recovered 6 kilograms and 240 rolls of cannabis sativa, 30 litres of chang’aa, six cartons of second-generation alcoholic drinks, and 20 packets of rolling papers believed to be used in drug distribution.

“Upon their arrest, the detectives seized 6 kg and 240 rolls of cannabis sativa, 30 litres of chang’aa, 6 cartons of second-generation liquor, and 20 packets of rolling papers,” DCI noted.

How they were apprehended

The persons of interest were taken to Narok Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court. All the recovered exhibits have been secured pending further investigations.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating within Suswa and surrounding areas, amid rising concerns over the spread of narcotics and illicit brews in rural trading centres.

“The suspects were escorted to Narok Police Station, where they are undergoing processing in preparation for their arraignment. Meanwhile, all seized items are being detained as exhibits,” DCI noted.

In another operation, police officers based in Busia intercepted a bus and recovered contraband liquor and narcotics.
