The state will honor 180 ‘mashujaas’ as the national heroes during Mashujaa Day fete scheduled for tomorrow in Mombasa County.

The Ministry of Interior said in a tweet though the Principal Secretary had earlier indicated that the number of ‘mashujaas’ to be celebrated by the state will be 200.

“Mashujaa day every year means different people. We leave that to the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and they are bringing to us 200 mashujaas” Said Kibicho in a briefing to the press.

At Mombasa’s Mama Ngina Drive Waterfront Park where the event shall be, around 50,000 people are expected. Most of the people will have to seat on the ground or stand since there will be only 15,000 seats.

Unlike in past times where foreign delegates are invited to such events, tomorrow’s Mashujaa Day has no any international guests officially invited. Karanja said that the special guests expected are all Kenyans.

Since last year’s fete, Kenya has put various other heroes to the international arena. Notable Kenyans drawn mainly from athletics have shone giving the country immense pride.

The Olympic Marathon record holder last weekend ran marathon in less than 2 hours, becoming the first person on earth to do so. In the INEOS challenge held in Vienna, Austria, Kipchoge’s success became a world debate.

Several other athletics and sports champions maybe among the 200 heroes to be celebrated tomorrow.
