Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has vowed to make Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) the only political party in the vote-rich Western Kenya region.

This follows the party’s decision to formally exit Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition.

Salasya on DAP-K tickets

Salasya in a statement shared via his official Instagram account on Saturday, November 2, 2024, urged Kenyans with political ambitions to join DAP-K as early as now, to be given the party tickets.

Salasya shared a video from which he was addressing the party members at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was held in Webuye on November 1, 2024, in which the party announced its exit from Azimio.

Chama ni DAP-K ukitaka ticket kuja kwa chama. Am going to make this party the only party in western Kenya….Thank you NDC for trusting me today in Webuye,” Salasya wrote on Instagram.

In the video, Salasya also expressed his gratitude to the DAP-K party leader for making a bold decision to exit Azimio.

Salasya on his strategy

The youthful MP said that he would be targeting the most popular candidates in Western Kenya for recruitment, as part of his strategy to popularize DAP-K.

According to him, it will be hard for politicians from opponent parties to defeat a DAP-K candidate in the next 2027 elections.

Salasya further argued that DAP-K is the only political party from the Western Kenya region that has been advocating for the interests of the common mwananchi.

“I want to thank the party leader for the first time, he has spoken my mind…For this decision that the party leader has taken , saying that we are now moving out of Azimio, has really stimulated my heart…We are now moving out and the party leader has now given as the reason. We are the only party that speak what Kenyans want to hear,” Salasya stated.

DAP-K Azimio exit

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa announced the party’s decision to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party citing betrayal from affiliate parties.

Wamalwa who chaired the NEC meeting in Webuye on November 1, 2024, said the party had decided to take the drastic action, accusing some Azimio leaders of working with the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza government to pass some unpopular Bills and programmes.

The DAP-K party also criticised the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration for ejecting Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President, and replacing him with Kithure Kindiki.

“The party has said, with all our chairmen from all the 47 counties that we will go back to each of the 47 counties to start an aggressive recruitment drive to prepare our party for the next elections, where the Democratic Action Party will be fielding candidates in all positions. So we are saying it as DAP that we no longer and cannot find it tenable to continue being in a relationship with people who are no longer like-minded with us,” Wamalwa said.
