Nandi County Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has claimed that Donald Trump’s policy for the African continent could be rough.

Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the US presidential race means he will return to the White House for another term. As he takes over, his foreign policy will be under intense scrutiny, and Cherargei is less optimistic about what Africa can gain from America under its 47th president.

“Trump’s foreign policy for the African continent shall be unpredictably rough. Belt up, Mother Africa,” Cherargei said in a post on his X handle, posted on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

The senator’s message differs with President William Ruto’s stance on Trump’s presidency.

Hopeful Ruto

Ruto, while congratulating the GOP candidate, said that Kenya is looking forward to working with Trump going forward.

“Your victory is a testament to the firm resolve of the American people to repose confidence in your visionary, bold, and innovative leadership. As you embark on this phase of your journey of leadership, Kenya stands ready to further enhance our cooperation on matters of mutual interest, including trade, investment, technology and innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development,” Ruto said.

Ruto cited the long-standing Kenya-American relationship and is hopeful there will be continued mutual collaboration between the two nations.

“Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the United States spanning over sixty years grounded in our shared values of democracy, development, and mutual respect. We look forward to deepening our collaboration under your leadership as we work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security, and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of our peoples.

“Congratulations once again, Mr. President-elect, and may your tenure bring continued progress and unity to the United States of America and strengthen the bonds between our two great nations,” he concluded.

Ruto, Cherargei, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula are among the leaders in the country who have added their voices to the outcome of the US election.
