Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) estimates it reduced the need for fuel imports worth approximately €91 million (Sh13.7 billion) into Kenya on low-carbon power.

This comes from their production of 1,481 GWh of clean energy in the past year, which accounted for 11.04 per cent of Kenya’s electricity generation and helped offset 605,428 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Max Schiff, CEO of LTWP, said the wind farm contributes to 10 per cent of Kenya’s total generation capacity and praised Kenya’s progress towards renewable energy, noting that the country achieved 85 per cent renewable energy penetration last year.

LTWP also makes a positive impact through its non-governmental organization project, Winds of Change (WoC), which focuses on community development in Marsabit County. In 2023, WoC invested €489,062 in various projects, including building school classrooms, kitchens, dormitories, and a fully equipped maternity ward. These initiatives benefited around 70,000 residents of Laisamis Constituency.

“These efforts underscore our ongoing commitment to the development of the communities we serve and we will continue to support upcoming initiatives,” Schiff said.
