Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has renewed attacks directed at President William Ruto for failing to fulfil some of his campaign promises.
Speaking at a church service on Sunday where he accompanied Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Waititu indicated that President Ruto sold hopes to Kenyans while armed with a Bible.
Waititu, who was among the leaders who campaigned for Ruto, argued that the Head of State changed immediately after he took the instruments of power from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“William Ruto mkumbuke tulipokuwa tunamchagua alikuwa anakuja na biblia kama mtu mzuri sana mwokovu kabisa lakini baada ya uchaguzi immediately sijui tulibadilishiwa? Kwa sababu alianza uongo day one (You should remember that when he picked William Ruto he came to us with a Bible and he was religious and a good man but I don’t know if we got another person immediately after elections? Because he started lying from the first day),” Waititu stated.
Unfulfilled pledges
According to the former Kiambu county boss, Ruto failed to honour his pledge on hustlers who propelled him to victory in the 2022 polls.
Besides shortchanging the hustlers, Waititu argued that some political leaders also fell victim to his unfilled promises.
Further, Waitutu famously known as Baba Yao accused Ruto of failing to bring down the cost of living despite pledging to work on it immediately after the elections.
The cost of education also featured in some of the unfulfilled pledges of President Ruto listed by Waititu.
“Akadanganya hustlers wote, mama mboga na boda boda hawakupata kitu. Watu wa kanisa si walidanganywa? (He lied to all the hustlers, vegetable vendors, boda boda riders and he has not given them anything. Did he also lie to you church people?) Waititu posed.
“Sisi viongozi tukadanganywa. Bei ya maisha watu walikuwa wanafikiria itaenda chini ikapanda juu. Hata kusomesha watu ikawa ni shida kubwa (He also lied to political leaders. people thought that the cost of living would come down but instead it has gone up even education has now become costly),” he added.
He further faulted the President for failing to honour his pledge on ending police brutality and enforced disappearances.
“Alikuwa amesema hakutakuwa na vifo kiholela holela juzi mliona vijana walitokea wakiwa na simu na maji wakisema serikali itengenezwe ndio hao walipigwa marisasi (He promised to end the killings but recently you saw when Gen Z came out armed with their phones and water bottles demanding proper governance, they were gunned down),” he added.
Other leaders who were presented also castigated the Kenya Kwanza administration vowing to defend the people’s interest, especially in the proposed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) takeover deal by Adani Group.
