No booze, new bliss

While the amount of alcohol one drinks can be a dubious badge of honour, most people have seen the light and boarded the alcohol free bandwagon.
With the sober curious movement growing steadily and surely and not just in the months on January and November, (we all know of the Dry January and No Drink November trend, right?), we explore various ways you can get your drinking on without the pesky hangover. How about some sippy-sips without the alcohol, but still delivering the buzz.
It is perhaps time you joined the zero alcohol moment where clarity reigns supreme while your tipples still look amazing. While the brave and shameless may order tea or warm milk at a home party or bar, the 99 per cent still want to blend in and seem to be imbibing alcohol even if they are not. That is why there is Heineken Zero, Guinness Zero and alcohol-free bubbly. But for those who still love the art of holding a gorgeous sparkly drink complete with umbrellas, then the mocktails are the way to go.
A good mocktail will have you blending in and having a ball all without being clocked as the non-drinking pariah. Heck, you can even scream and dance all night long alongside your besties without them catching on. But are they really your besties if you cannot tell them what you drink? But I digress, so here are four quick and cute drinks that you can make that will have you abuzz all without the booze.
Non-alcoholic punch
Life is not an American movie where the party starts when several people spark the punch bowl with five different spirits. In real life, doing this would mean everyone is either out cold or out vomiting. And what fun is that anyway? So, a non-alcoholic punch is the way to go. Pick the fruits of the season, dice them and put them into a punch bowl. Add ice. Then add several of your favourite juices. Add some Schwepes, sparkling water, Sprite or fizzy soda of your choice to add some bubbles and extra tinge. Serve in cocktail glasses and proceed to enjoy.
Sparkly booze-free bubbly
There is nothing as gorgeous as a champagne flute in a lady’s well-manicured hand. A mimosa comes as a close second though. But the great thing is no one can ever tell an alcoholic filled flute from one that is not. So, just make mimosas (some orange juice plus alcohol free bubbly will do) and bubbly flutes full of alcohol free bubbly and serve at your next party. You might just onboard a few more curious riders onto the sober curious movement.
Mocktails reign supreme
The easiest mocktail to make requires some mint leaves for garnish and taste, some sugar, limes and soda water. All you have to do is muddle the sugar, a few sliced limes, and the mint at the bottom of the glass with a mortar. Once you are satisfied that the limes are all juiced up, add a healthy serving of your fizzy soda, then slap on some mint leaves and lime wheel for garnish.
Iced teas
Iced tea packs the caffeine in tea while allowing you to enjoy other taste layers of your choice be it limes, oranges or peach. To make iced tea, boil some water, add your favourite teabags and sugar to taste. Leave to steep then remove the teabags and cool. Add some lime, peach or orange juice, ice cubes, and your favourite tea cubes and serve.
