Naivasha is a renowned out-of-Nairobi destination that offers fun, adventure and relaxation. Most people prefer it because of the distance; it’s just two hours’ drive and has a wide range of activities that one can engage in.

It’s suitable for solo, family, as well as romantic getaways. While viewing the lake and boat rides seem to be the most common activities, there are various, well, abodes, where one can both spend the night and have a day or night game drive if they are a fun of such.

Last weekend we featured Kiangazi House at the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary, and this time, we look at Loldia House.

This was the first stone house on the shores of Lake Naivasha, having been constructed in 1940 by Italian prisoners of war. The house, comprised of nine rooms now, converted into guest accommodation, surrounded by lush grounds that stretch to the lakeshore. Often, honeymooners enjoy magnificent views of the lake as well as the extinct volcano from one of the garden cottages.

Horse riding is a recent introduction at the house, which allows travellers take in the scenery while enjoying the ride. A swimming pool is currently being built; slightly elevated and situated amongst beautiful age-old fig trees, it will also have incredible views of the surrounding landscape and lake.

One of the highlights while staying in this house is the day trip to Lake Nakuru, which they offer to guests. You can also have a day or night game drive in their 6,500-acre ranch. After a sumptuous meal and amazing conversations during my stay, I had a chance to see hippos, spring hares, porcupines, skunks and mongoose during the one-hour night game drive.

Another activity one can indulge in while there is exploring the Eburu Forest Reserve. The forest comprises 8,715.3 hectares of prime indigenous forest area, the rolling foothills of Mount Eburu as well as deep valleys within the steep hills. I loved the nature walk and the pure air at the forest.
