What inspired you to work in the hospitality industry?

I loved the industry because there are truly limitless career opportunities and it’s one of the fastest-growing employment sectors in the world.

Like any other job, every day comes with new challenges and problem-solving scenarios.

Briefly share your journey

I started working at the pot wash section at The Carnivore in 2002. Thereafter, I pursued my A-Levels before joining Makerere University Business School where I studied Catering and Hotel Management.

Later, a management training opportunity at Tamarind Hotel exposed me to what I love doing today.

What is unique about Lake Elementaita Mountain Lodge?

Lake Elementaita Mountain Lodge is truly magical. The one thing that makes it stand out is its strategic location.

Elevated above the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) World Heritage site of Lake Elementaita, the hotel boasts of sensational views from sunrise to sunset and offers guests remarkable standards of accommodation, service, and access to first-class amenities.

The other great thing is that the lodge has the capacity to accommodate 100 guests who have either come for leisure , team building, wedding or even conferencing.

Some of the activities that one can enjoy, include a game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Elementaita, and also a tour around the Egerton Castle which is 45 kilometres away.

How has this year been in terms of bookings and as we get into the Christmas season?

Domestic tourism has been a good boost to our destination so far this year, and with Nakuru becoming a city, we expect to get even more guests and corporate business.

We also can’t wait to give our guests, who have booked in large numbers this festive season lasting memories.

What lessons have you learned about being a GM?

Every day brings new challenges and people have different needs at varied times.

Flexibility is, therefore, key when problem-solving, and every challenge needs a different approach.
