Concerned at the rate opposition MPs are visiting State House, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislators are reportedly planning to re-defect to the ruling party for the sake of development.

The lawmakers are worried that if they don’t make the crucial move soon enough, there will be no more development left for them at State House.

According to impeachable sources, the commodity is dwindling fast as more and more opposition MPs fall over themselves in the stampede to the House on the Hill to receive their share of ‘maendeleo’.

An impeachable source close to the said House revealed that stocks are limited and some legislators risk missing out if they don’t make the all-important trip to the hallowed residence as soon as possible.

“Development offers available while stocks last. As they say, the early bird catches the worm and those who waste time attending noisy rallies will find the shelves empty by the time they visit State House,” said the source.

It is against this background that UDA legislators are planning to also make the special appearance at the President’s residence to receive their share of maendeleo.

One anxious UDA lawmaker said they are planning to announce that they had re-defected to the selfsame ruling party for the sake of development, and book a date with the President where they will have a handshake and a photo-op.

“It is not fair that our opposition colleagues get to have the honour of meeting the President and getting maendeleo while we are ignored. If it takes us re-defecting to the same party for the sake of development, so be it,” said the legislator who did not want to be named for letting the cat out of the bag.

Another ruling party legislator appealed to the opposition MPs to slow down the rush to State House, saying they too deserve a share of development.

“We also need to be given a chance to re-defect and re-state our undying loyalty for the sake of progress. No one has the monopoly of loyalty,” said the visibly frustrated MP.

She pleaded with the President not to forget his loyal UDA servants while dolling out development to opposition MPs at State House.

“Please Sir, spare some development for us too, seeing we have always been with you in times of sorrow and in times of joy. We will soon announce our re-defection to the ruling party so that we, too, can get development,” she said.

Pundits have predicted that the stampede to the House on the Hill will intensify in the coming weeks and months, as the hunger for development among politicians grows.

“The development-consciousness among Kenyan politicians is unmatched in the region and even in the world. That’s why you are seeing all this mass movement to the House on the Hill,” said Kenya’s top political seer Mtaa Ngumi.

By press time, impeachable sources at State House said the waiting list for development visits was growing fast and warned that stocks were flying off the shelves at an alarming rate.
