National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has reaffirmed his support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election, assuring Rift Valley residents that backing the Head of State is not a matter of persuasion but a responsibility.

Speaking in Kapsabet during a church service on Sunday August 17, 2025, Wetangula emphasised that the region should firmly remain behind the president.

He likened the situation to “preaching to the converted,” According to Wetang’ula, the president needs not to campaign in the region; it’s a done deal for him, and if they have to, it will be akin to reaching out to people who are already saved, since he believes the region, being President Ruto’s backyard, is wholly behind him.

Wetang’ula also believes Rift Valley locals have to preserve the presidency and make sure that Ruto is elected for a second term, and they should come out in large numbers without any persuasion.

“We are already preaching to the converted. Supporting President Ruto for a second term is not a debate; it’s a duty. Let critics make noise just like frogs croak when a cow is drinking water. President Ruto should ignore them and continue delivering for Kenyans. Backing Ruto in 2027 Is Your Duty, Not a Debate,” Wetang’ula said.

Message to critics

The Speaker dismissed those opposing Ruto’s future bid, terming them as leaders without clear policies or concrete reasons to dissuade Kenyans from re-electing the President. He maintained that criticism directed at Ruto is only noise-making that should not distract the Head of State from delivering on his promises to the people.

Wetangula further urged President Ruto to focus on his current mandate, insisting that Kenyans will judge his leadership in 2027 based on development projects and the impact of his policies rather than on political propaganda.

According to him, those against Ruto’s leadership offer no real alternative and are merely out to disrupt the country’s political stability.
