Westlands MP and Bungoma 2027 gubernatorial hopeful Tim Wanyonyi has opened up about his decision to delay announcing the political party he will use for his bid.

Wanyonyi has stated that his current focus is on building his personal brand and engaging with voters across the county.

Speaking during an interview on a local radio station, Wanyonyi explained that he is taking a cautious approach and does not want to rush into party politics at this stage.

According to him, his priority has been to introduce himself to the people of Bungoma and initiate conversations with key stakeholders, regardless of their political affiliations.

“I don’t want to rush what I have done. Now I have just come to introduce myself. I don’t want anybody to limit me. I want to engage every stakeholder of each party, and that is why I held a consultative forum with MPs and MCAs all drawn from different parties.

“Since I don’t want anybody to associate me with any party, as per what I know, I just want people to view me as a brand and a Tim Wanyonyi,” Wanyonyi said.

He recently held a consultative meeting with MCAs from various political parties, a move he says was aimed at ensuring inclusivity and avoiding early political labelling.

Wanyonyi believes that aligning too soon with a party could limit his ability to reach and work with leaders and supporters from across the political spectrum.

When to announce

For now, he wants to be viewed independently—as Tim Wanyonyi—rather than be defined by a party association. He maintains that once he completes his introductory phase and engages fully with the electorate, he will announce the party through which he intends to vie for the Bungoma governorship.

“After the introduction is when I will tell people which party I will be vying for, but now I just want people to see me as Tim, but later is when I will announce the party I will be vying for,” he added.

This comes days after declaring interests in the Bungoma gubernatorial race, with him being ready to face Kimilili MP Didimus Barasa in the upcoming polls.
