Wamboka calls for massive ID registration in Bungoma ahead of 2027 polls

Bumula Member of Parliament (MP) Jack Wamboka has revealed a new Identity Card (ID) and voter registration initiative aimed at boosting the region’s voting bloc ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a meeting with Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) officials on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the MP announced a target of doubling his constituency’s numbers during the ongoing exercise.
Wamboka, who announced plans to kickstart the initiative in his Bumula backyard, urged other leaders to replicate the exercise in their constituencies.
“We have started a plan for national ID registration. We want people to register and double our numbers. We want to have a minimum of 160 000 registered voters.
“ I want to urge others in regions like Kanduyi and other areas to register people,” he added.
The MP asserted that exercise will give the region a competitive edge in the country’s political discussions.
“When we announce the start of this exercise, we want you to help and spread the message for people to register. We have to have numbers and match those of areas with high numbers if we have to compete and win. Now there is no vetting; you only have to wait for the day it comes to your doorstep and register,” he said.
Wamboka’s declaration comes a month after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula challenged political leaders and administrators from the county on the issue of registered voters in the western county.

The speaker noted that the region’s voters failed to match its overall population and sounded the call for increasing their voter registration.
The speaker pledged a Ksh1 million reward to the chief who would register the highest number of new ID applicants in the county.
“Bungoma is the third largest county in Kenya, behind Nairobi and Kakamega. But when you look at registered voters, you find Nakuru has 1 million, Kiambu has 1.2 million, Nairobi has around 3 million, Bungoma is still in the 600,000 mark… How will we be taken seriously?” he posed.
Trans Nzoia George Natembeya also mirrored similar remarks during a past address in Trans Nzoia on Friday, March 27, 2025.

The governor urged residents to take advantage of the presidential directive of exempting national ID applicants from vetting and register for IDs in large numbers.
He maintained that such a move would not only help them negotiate their interests nationally but also bolster their chances of forming a government of their choice.
“Vitambulisho inapeanwa kwa Wakenya bila malipo kwa sasa. Hatutaki kusikia Chifu anaitisha ata shilingi hamsini. Nitakuja kuwapanga vijana wetu, Chifu anakuja anasign form zinaenda Nairobi, mpate vitambulisho turegister kura na tuweke serikali ambayo tunataka,” he added.
