Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has revisited the calls for the Luhya community to consider their political future away from the dominant political parties of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the ruling United Democratic Party (UDA) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Friday, March 27, 2025, during a fertilizers distribution exercise to his constituents, Natembeya, who was elected in a Democratic Action Party of Kenya Party (DAP-K) under the Azimio coalition, said it was time for the Luhya nation to re-strategize and reconsider their political future out of the two dominant parties.

He maintained that such a move would not only help them negotiate their interests nationally but also bolster their chances of forming a government of their choice.

Our own House

“Na Siasa inapangwa, waluya hatupangi siasa tumekataa kujengya nyumba yetu tumekatalia kwa ODM na UDA. Iyo mambo 2027 hatukai kwa nyumba ya mtu. Tumekubaliana watu yangu? Tutakuwa nyumba yetu, tutapanga masuala yetu na tutaenda kwa meza kubwa kama nyumba moja,” he said.

In realizing this, the governor urged the youths from the region to take advantage of the government decree of the free issuance of national identification cards (IDs) and register in drones ahead of the polls, which are two and a half years away.

Vitambulisho inapeanwa kwa Wakenya bila malipo kwa sasa. Hatutaki kusikia Chifu anaitisha ata shilingi hamsini. Nitakuja kuwapanga vijana wetu, Chifu anakuja anasign form zinaenda Nairobi, mpate vitambulisho turegister kura na tuweke serikali ambayo tunataka,” he added.

Sudi jibes Natembeya

The governor’s sentiments follow after Kapseret MP OScar Sudi called him out over prioritising ethnic rhetoric over service delivery.

Speaking on Friday, March 28, 2025, at his Kapseret turf, Sudi lamented that Natembeya, who served as Rift Valley regional Commissioner before transitioning to politics in 2022, spends most of his time talking about tribal matters rather than working for the people who elected him.

“And there is another fool right here in Trans Nzoia, this governor of Trans Nzoia. From morning to evening, he is poisoning people’s minds, saying, ‘These are our people. These are our people.’ His only job is to move around the whole day talking nonsense instead of working for the people. He has not done a single thing for the residents,” Sudi remarked.
