Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has opened the doors for Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale to join his party, citing what he claims is ongoing victimisation within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking on Sunday, December 7, 2025, during the installation ceremony of the king of the Mareba clan in Butula, Busia County, Wamalwa said that the UDA party is victimising Khalwale over his stance in the November 27, 2025, Malava constituency by-election.

According to Wamalwa, Khalwale was kicked out of his position as Senate Majority Whip for supporting DAP-K’s Seth Panyako in the Malava parliamentary mini poll that was won by UDA’s David Ndakwa.

Luhyia unity

He went ahead to claim that in supporting Panyako, Khalwale was only fighting for the dignity of the Luhyia community and that the mini polls showed that the Mulembe nation has a chance to unite.

Tuna nafasi nzuri kuja pamoja.

The former Defence Cabinet Secretary further took to his official X account to claim that Khalwale is also being persecuted over his stance in the ongoing gold dispute in Ikolomani, Kakamega County.

“We stand with Senator @DrBKhalwale and the People of Kakamega in fighting for the gold, the wealth, welfare and dignity of the People of Kakamega County, Western Kenya and Kenya as a whole. If he is victimized in this endeavour, he can count on our support and @DAP_Kenya as his home,” Wamalwa wrote on X.

DCP woos Khalwale

Wamalwa’s offer to Khalwale comes days after Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala urged the Kakamega Senator to join the Rigathi Gachagua-led party after his ouster from the Senate Majority Whip position.

While speaking during a forum held at the DCP party headquarters on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Malala called upon Khalwale, whom they had previously decided to shelve their personal differences with and campaign for Panyako, who unsuccessfully contested for the Malava parliamentary seat in the recently concluded by-elections.

He further instructed Nyandarua Senator John Methu to help the party in convincing Khalwale to join the political outfit, vowing to hold Khalwale’s hand should he accept the offer to join the DCP party.

“Tunatuma John Methu aende ambie ndugu yangu Khalwale vile wamemtupa huko UDA, akuje kwa chama cha DCP. Tunamkaribisha sana, na nitamshika mkono kama ndugu yangu wa nyumbani,” Malala said.
