Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has invited Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale to join the DCP party after his ouster from the Senate Majority Whip position.

While speaking during a forum held at the DCP party headquarters on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, he called upon Khalwale, whom they had previously decided to shelve their personal differences with and campaign for the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako, who unsuccessfully contested for the Malava parliamentary seat in the recently concluded by-elections.

He further instructed Nyandarua Senator John Methu to help the party in convincing Khalwale to join the political outfit, vowing to hold Khalwale’s hand should he accept the offer to join the DCP party.

“Tunatuma John Methu aende ambie ndugu yangu Khalwale vile wamemtupa huko UDA, akuje kwa chama cha DCP. Tunamkaribisha sana, na nitamshika mkono kama ndugu yangu wa nyumbani.”

This comes a day after Khalwale was shown the door from the Senate leadership after defying the party’s stand to support opposition candidate Seth Panyako instead of David Ndakwa in the Malava by-election.

He was replaced by Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli, who took over from him as the Majority Whip.

In reaction, Khalwale said that all is not lost. He avoided speaking directly on the matter and instead chose to congratulate Chwele/Kabuchai MCA Erick Wekesa, who dwarfed Ford-Kenya candidate Vincent Maunda in the recently concluded by-elections.

Khalwale’s ouster from the whip position

Malala is not the only person who has urged Khalwale to join their formation after his fallout with the UDA party. Recently, DAP-K party boss Eugene Wamalwa extended a similar offer to him, predicting Khalwale’s fate in UDA, telling him that should the party show him the door, he should join DAP-K.

Wamalwa even offered him the position of Third Deputy Party Leader, replacing Ayub Savula, who also defied the party’s stand to support David Ndakwa.

The feud between Malala and Khalwale seems to be coming to an end. This was recently witnessed during the Malava by-elections, where Khalwale hinted that in 2027, despite both harbouring gubernatorial ambitions, one would shelve his bid and support the other, with the remaining candidate going for the Senate position to avoid splitting votes.

Khalwale’s recent political steps also seem to be leaning towards the united opposition. During one of the campaigns in Malava, he told Eugene Wamalwa that as he engages the united opposition, he—Khalwale—is fully behind him in the talks.
