Wamalwa meets Luhya elders days after talks with Gachagua and Kalonzo

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has intensified his 2027 election bid preparations, meeting with Luhya elders in Bungoma just days after holding talks with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Taking to his X account on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Wamalwa announced that the meeting brought together elders from various Luhya clans, professionals, and clergy members.
“Held a leaders meeting with elders from all clans of our community, together with professionals and clergy in Bungoma this morning,” Wamalwa stated.

He emphasized the critical role of obtaining the elders’ blessings before the 2027 elections.
“The consultations, blessings and guidance of elders in any community before embarking on a major journey such as the 10th August 2027 presidential one, are critical,” he added.
The gathering took place at the residence of Zachariah Barasa, a DAP-K allied politician.
Barasa confirmed the meeting in a statement on his Facebook page, saying, “Meeting with clan chairmen in Bungoma at my residence in attendance is DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa.”

Series of meetings
This consultation with the elders followed a significant meeting on February 19, where Wamalwa and Kalonzo Musyoka met with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Nairobi.
While Kalonzo characterized it as a casual tea meeting, he acknowledged they discussed the current political situation.

“I enjoyed a cup of Kenyan tea with my friends, Second Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya @rigathi and @DAP_Kenya Party Leader @EugeneLWamalwa, in Nairobi earlier today. Together we compared notes and shared our thoughts about the current political situation in the country, region, and continent,” Kalonzo stated on his X account on February 19, 2025.
Growing political alliance
These recent meetings build on earlier political developments, notably the January 27, 2025, launch of DAP-K’s new headquarters, which Gachagua attended alongside key allies.
The event, which drew attendance from prominent politicians including Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru, and Senators Karungo Thang’wa and Joe Nyutu, centered on succession politics.

The launch marked a significant shift in political alignments, with leaders present emphasizing the need for unity to challenge the current administration in the 2027 elections.
The series of meetings between Wamalwa, Gachagua, and Kalonzo has intensified speculation about a possible coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
