Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) counterpart Eugene Wamalwa on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kalonzo, in a statement shared via his official X account, stated that the trio had met for a cup of tea.

However, he noted that they had compared notes and shared their thoughts about the current political situation in the country, region, and continent.

“I enjoyed a cup of Kenyan tea with my friends, Second Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya @rigathi and @DAP_Kenya Party Leader @EugeneLWamalwa, in Nairobi earlier today. Together we compared notes and shared our thoughts about the current political situation in the country, region, and continent,” Kalonzo stated.

Their meeting comes amid growing speculations on a possible political coalition between the trio ahead of the 2027 General Election.

This is the second time the three politicians are meeting in 2025.

Gachagua teams with opposition

Gachagua, on January 27, 2025, joined the two opposition leaders at the launch of new headquarters for the DAP-K party.

Gachagua attended the launch accompanied by his allies, including Member of Parliament for Githunguri Constituency Gathoni Wamuchomba and former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, a vocal legislator who defended Gachagua at the height of impeachment, was also present during the launch. Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu also joined the former DP.

The DAP-K new headquarters launch was dominated by succession politics, with leaders present calling for the need to unite to send the current administration packing.

Gachagua allies push for coalition

Wamuchomba rallied on Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Wamalwa to find the shortest possible way of defeating President William Ruto in 2027. She claimed that the Kenya Kwanza regime had made lives difficult and ruined the education system.

Thang’wa on his side reprimanded President William Ruto’s administration for failing to honour its campaign pledges.

The issue of abductions also featured in their speeches, with Senator Dan Maanzo decrying the police’s unresponsiveness in the case of the missing Mlolongo four.

Maanzo challenged the people to register in masses and prepare for the next polls.

Gachagua’s presence at the launch of the DAP-K party headquarters came days after he agreed to work with Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua.
