Waiguru up in arms over reports on alleged irregular payment of Ksh52m for land survey
Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, who on Thursday September 9 had a date with the EACC, has expressed displeasure by the coverage of her alleged irregular payment of Ksh52m for land survey.
The county chief took to her social media platforms, accusing the government of sponsoring a witch-hunt narrative.
The Jubilee governor remained incessant that her administration had not paid the aforementioned amounts for the land survey.
“Shame on you! This is the witch-hunt narrative I was talking about being pushed by those fighting me in Govt! Get this clear – we have not paid, repeat not paid Ksh52M, or we have not paid even one shilling!” she posted.
The county chief has in recent days claimed that she is being targeted by state agencies due to her political choices. While addressing journalists after hours of grilling at the EACC headquarter on Thursday, September 9, 2021, the county chief maintained that her summons evidently had hallmarks of witch-hunt.
The land in question was initially under the defunct Kirinyaga County Council in 1965, before being handed over to the Kirinyaga County Government. The county had initiated a process of issuing title deeds to 8,200 families that resided on the property.
EACC detectives had sought to know whether procurement processes were followed when payment of Ksh52m was made to surveyors. The surveying and titling of the land had stalled in 2006 and was restarted by Waiguru’s administration in April 2021.
