Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala has expressed confidence that the party will clinch the parliamentary seat in the forthcoming Malava Constituency by-election.

Speaking on Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2025, during a campaign engagement at the Kimang’eti area in Malava Constituency, Malala said DCP had fielded a strong candidate in lawyer Edgar Busiega Mwanga, whose track record and connection with the local community made him the right choice for the job.

“This afternoon, alongside DCP Party’s Malava Constituency candidate, Wakili Edgar Busiega Mwanga, we held a comprehensive sit-down with the good residents of the Kimang’eti area in Malava Constituency,” Malala said. “We are confident that DCP will clinch the parliamentary seat in the forthcoming by-election.”

For DCP, a win in Malava would signal growing national relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.

Malava by-elections

As preparations intensify ahead of the forthcoming Malava Constituency parliamentary by-election, triggered by the passing of MP Moses Malulu Injendi in February 2025, the political landscape in Kakamega County is witnessing heightened activity and sharp competition.

Several parties are now preparing for what is expected to be a competitive race. DCP hopes to make a strong statement with its candidate, banking on local support and party structures in the region.

On July 17, DCP officially presented Busiega as its flagbearer. Malala praised him at a Nairobi event, promising resource allocation to support DCP’s ambition to win a majority of seats in the upcoming by-elections.

Other candidates vying for the seat include lawyer Lewis Shitanda, former nominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga, activist Caleb Burudi, security expert Dr Enock Makanga, former nominated MCA Lazarus Lucheveleli, Samuel Tsimbwela Wesukari, Michael Murambi Angatia and Dr Wanangwe Kulecho.

As residents of Malava prepare to vote for a representative who can deliver development and unity, the race is shaping into a contest between old and new political paradigms, legacy versus reform, clan versus policy, and generational change.
