‘Uhuru is not financing us’- Osotsi speaks on Kakamega, Kitengela rallies
Vihiga County Senator Godfrey Osotsi has disputed claims that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta funded the Linda Mwananchi rallies held in Kitengela and Kakamega, saying they spent less on both rallies.
In a post on his official X account on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Osotsi dismissed remarks that the team mobilised payments to fund both rallies.
On his part, Ososti maintained that any attacks witnessed in Kakamega and Kitengela were never staged.
“Uhuru is not financing us, we spent very little on our Kitengela and Kakamega rally. We never mobilised people and paying them. We never staged attacks in our rallies!,” Osotsi said.
Sifun’s remarks on teargas
Just days ago, the embattled Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna maintained that the use of teargas would not stop public dissent, following chaotic scenes at the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega on Saturday.
Speaking at a local radio station on Tuesday morning, Sifuna dismissed claims that the opposition had staged the disruption, insisting that those behind the teargas incident must be held accountable.

“It is going to take more than teargas to stop the voice and the movement of the people. It will no longer be possible to stop people’s movements using these things,” Sifuna said.
The rally, organised under the Linda Mwananchi banner, was disrupted after unknown individuals reportedly lobbed teargas canisters into the crowd, causing panic and injuries.
Sifuna claimed that one of the suspects apprehended by attendees was found in possession of teargas and handcuffs, saying the items are typically restricted to law enforcement officers.
“These are things that only police officers have,” he said, adding that two young men suspected of involvement were severely beaten by an angry crowd before leaders intervened.
Osotsi’s warning to Ruto
His remarks come days after he issued a warning to President William Ruto against any attempt to disrupt the planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega, saying interference would undermine democracy in Kenya.
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday, Osotsi emphasised that the opposition team would rely on “people’s power” for protection.
“We saw the Linda ground holding a rally at Golf Hotel in Kakamega and no one stopped them. No one stopped them,” he said. “So we don’t expect them to come and disrupt our rally because we are doing it in peace,” Osotsi said.
Osotsi also called on Kenyans to attend the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega, saying the gathering will send a clear message to President William Ruto. “Let us all attend the meeting in Kakamega to send a message to William Ruto that your days are numbered.
We cannot continue to have a regime that does not tolerate divergent opinions,” Osotsi stated, urging citizens to show support for democratic participation and the opposition-led event.
