UDA releases grassroots elections schedule for 22 counties

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced the schedule for grassroots elections set to be conducted in 22 counties across the country.

UDA, in a statement issued on Monday, March 10, 2025, through its National Chairperson Governor Cecily Mbarire, said that the National Steering Committee, together with the National Elections Board, had on Monday, March 10, met to deliberate on the upcoming second phase of the UDA Grassroots elections after successfully conducting the elections in five counties.

The upcoming grassroots elections scheduled for April 11 and 12, 2025, will be conducted in Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Migori, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana-River, and Turkana counties.

UDA on number of candidates

According to UDA, 113,800 candidates in the mentioned counties have so far registered to contest.

The President William Ruto-led party further stated that the registration for candidates, which is still open, will remain available until Friday, March 21, 2025, at midnight.

“The National Steering Committee, together with the National Elections Board, have today met to deliberate on the upcoming phase 2 of the UDA Grassroots elections. The UDA has so far successfully conducted the elections in 5 Counties,” UDA stated.

In these counties, 113,800 candidates have so far registered to contest. The registration for candidates is now open and will remain available until Friday, 21 March, 2025, at midnight. Digital electronic framework

UDA has further revealed that it has since procured over 10,000 gadgets to ensure that the elections are conducted seamlessly through a digital electronic framework that will ensure the election is open, free, and fair.

“The UDA’s foresight strategy emphasizes participatory leadership as a cornerstone of our democratic framework. True democracy flourishes when every citizen has the opportunity to engage in the political process. We have procured over 10,000 gadgets to ensure that the elections are conducted seamlessly through a digital electronic framework that will ensure the election is open, free, fair, and with instantaneous results at polls closure,” the statement read in part.
