Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has welcomed the meeting between former Chief Justice David Maraga and Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, June 19, 2026, Amisi described the meeting as a positive step toward strengthening opposition unity ahead of the 2027 political realignments.

“Pole pole tukisonga. Iko sawa kabisa!” Amisi wrote on X.

The comments come after Matiang’i held talks with Maraga on Friday, June 19, 2026, where the two leaders discussed what they described as efforts to build a broad, united front aimed at shaping Kenya’s political future.

Matiang’i frames meeting as push for opposition unity

Following the meeting, Matiang’i took to his official X account, framing the engagement as part of wider efforts to consolidate opposition forces.

“Enhancing opposition unity as we seek to liberate Kenya. It was a pleasure catching up with Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga as we continue building a broad, united front committed to a better future for all Kenyans,” Matiang’i stated.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary, who is emerging as a key opposition presidential figure under the Jubilee Party umbrella, has recently intensified his political engagements with leaders aligned to alternative political formations.

Maraga meeting adds to expanding political consultations

The meeting with Maraga comes just days after Matiang’i held discussions with leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi camp, including Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili (Babu Owino), Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, among others.

The June 16, 2026, meeting, which Matiang’i described on his X account as “About today…”, further fuelled speculation about emerging political alliances and behind-the-scenes negotiations among opposition-leaning leaders.

Although the leaders did not publicly disclose details of their discussions, the gathering has been interpreted by political observers as part of early efforts to realign opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general election.

Growing signs of opposition consolidation

The successive meetings involving Matiang’i, Maraga, and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi faction have intensified speculation over the formation of a broader opposition alliance.

The engagements point to a possible convergence between reform-minded political actors and emerging opposition blocs seeking to challenge the current political establishment.

Supporters of the engagements argue that such consultations are necessary for building consensus, strengthening governance alternatives, and uniting fragmented opposition voices.

As political activities quietly intensify ahead of 2027, the latest interactions between key political figures suggest that early groundwork for alliances is already underway.

While none of the leaders have formally announced any coalition agreements, the frequency of high-profile meetings continues to fuel speculation of a shifting political landscape.
