UDA leaders rally support for Mbeere North by-election candidate

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has intensified its campaign efforts in Mbeere North ahead of the upcoming parliamentary by-election, with senior party leaders engaging residents and traders to rally support for the party’s candidate, Leonard Wamuthende.

The by-election follows the recent vacancy of the seat, prompting increased political activity as parties position their preferred candidates.

Grassroots engagement at Ishiara Market

On November 10, 2025, UDA leaders held an outreach event at Ishiara market in Mbeere North, where they interacted with vendors and local business owners.

According to a post shared on the party’s X account, the leaders in attendance included UDA Party National Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, among others.

The engagement focused on economic empowerment and highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening small-scale commerce in the region.

Campaign strategy and development focus

The party has linked its campaign messaging to ongoing government-backed development efforts.

In a statement issued on November 4, 2025, UDA noted that Governor Mbarire reaffirmed the party’s intention to continue investing in critical sectors in Mbeere North.

“UDA Party National Chairperson and Embu County Governor, Cecily Mbarire, reaffirmed the party’s steadfast commitment to making deliberate and impactful strides toward elevating Mbeere North to greater heights through transformative investments in education, road infrastructure, agriculture, water, irrigation, and other key sectors that directly improve the lives of the people,” read the statement in part.

Governor Mbarire also held a meeting with residents and opinion leaders drawn from the three wards of Mbeere North.

“During an engaging and productive meeting with residents and opinion leaders drawn from the three wards of Mbeere North, Governor Mbarire rallied support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Leonard Leo Wamuthende, ahead of the forthcoming by-election.”

The governor expressed appreciation for what she described as strong community input and support, stating that the party would continue collaborating with residents. “The Governor expressed deep appreciation for the valuable insights and overwhelming support shared during the engagement, assuring the people that the UDA administration will continue working hand in hand with them to fulfil its promises and secure a prosperous future for Mbeere North,” the statement reads.
