UDA expresses confidence ahead of Ol Kalou mini-poll as Samuel Muchina gets ticket
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expressed confidence in winning the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election after officially handing Samuel Muchina Nyagah the party nomination certificate following his victory in the party primaries.
The Ol Kalou by-election is scheduled for July 14, 2026.
Nyagah was officially unveiled as the UDA candidate on Saturday, May 9, 2026, after winning the party primaries conducted a day earlier. According to results released by the ruling party, Nyagah garnered 3,221 votes to narrowly defeat his closest challenger, George Wambugu Kanuri, who secured 3,077 votes.

In a statement on X account on May 14, 2026, UDA said that the conclusion of its internal nomination exercise marked the beginning of a vigorous grassroots campaign to secure the support of voters across the constituency.
“We have completed our internal democratic process, and our focus shifts to the grassroots as we prepare to deploy our political architecture and a well-coordinated campaign to win the vote and confidence of the Ol Kalou electorate,” the party stated.
Credible nomination exercise
UDA said its campaign will be anchored on the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), promising inclusive development and economic progress for residents of the constituency.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan lauded the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and credible nomination exercise.

He noted that only one dispute was filed during the nominations and was successfully handled by the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC), chaired by Adrian Kamotho.
“The campaign will be built on an unwavering commitment to the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), inclusive development, and tangible progress that leaves no Ol Kalou resident behind,” the party stated.
UDA-DCP Ol Kalou contest
The Ol Kalou by-election is becoming a major political battleground, particularly in the Mt Kenya region, where President Ruto’s allies are seeking to maintain dominance amid growing competition from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The by-election is widely viewed as an early test of political influence and grassroots mobilisation strength between UDA and emerging opposition-aligned outfits seeking to make inroads in the region.
