Sifuna teargassed moments before his speech in Kakamega
The Embattled Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been teargassed just moments after he made it to the podium to make his speech at the Linda Ground in Kakamega County.
Speaking on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Sifuna called out President William Ruto for spearheading the throwing teargas at the residents.
At the time, Sifuna maintained that the meeting was not going to end despite the use of teargas to disperse the crowd present.
The teargas, however, did not stop Sifuna’s speech as the Kakamega residents braced the teargas smoke while listening to the embattled Orange Democratic Movement leader.
“Wapige ingine kama watapiga,,,,hii mkutano ni sisi tutamaliza hakuna mtu mwingine,” Sifuna said.
Edwin Sifuna led the Linda Mwananchi team in drawing a sea of humanity after landing in Kakamega town for their much-anticipated rally.

Amalemba grounds
Sifuna’s caravan snaked through Kakamega town en route to Amalemba Grounds, where the rally was scheduled to take place. Supporters turned out in large numbers, following the procession and chanting slogans in support of the leaders.
He was accompanied by several Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) allies, including James Orengo, Babu Owino, Caleb Amisi, Richard Onyonka, and Kakamega senatorial aspirant Brian Lishenga. Leaders from other parties also joined them, among them Jack Wamboka and Majimbo Kalasinga.
