Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has raised serious alarm over the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju.

Taking to his official social media accounts on Monday, March 23, 2026, Sifuna described the incident as a dangerous signal of lawlessness that could drive investors away from Kenya.

The embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General warned that the Tuju case is more than a private matter, claiming it reflects a broader pattern of “dark arts” being deployed to force outcomes in commercial disputes.

“We must all be gravely concerned about this Tuju situation. You may say it’s a private matter, but what you need to understand is that it’s a continuation of the ‘mambo ni matatu’ way of solving private commercial disputes,” Sifuna wrote.

High-profile cases

He drew parallels to other high-profile cases, including the deportation of Chinese businessmen linked to a Ksh30 billion tender, arguing that such incidents create an environment of fear for investors.

“See it in the context of Rai, and the deported Chinese businessmen over a 30B shilling tender. We have a rogue regime that deploys dark arts to force outcomes in commercial disputes. No investor would put their money into such a country. It’s why the private sector is fleeing Kenya, it’s why our young people have no jobs,” Sifuna added.

He also emphasised the constitutional and civic implications, insisting that the government must act swiftly to locate Tuju and uphold the rule of law.

“It’s why the private sector is fleeing Kenya, it’s why our young people have no jobs. It’s why we keep insisting on the values of our constitution. It’s why we sing Rule of Law. It’s not about shiny things people. The state, whose job it is to protect citizens, must now produce Tuju!” he said.

Tuju’s disappearance

Tuju, a veteran politician and former Cabinet secretary, reportedly went missing on March 21, 2026, sparking nationwide concern and calls for urgent police action.

While authorities have launched investigations, details about his whereabouts remain scarce.

Tuju’s reported disappearance comes amid a Karen property row that was auctioned due to a defaulted loan owed to a bank.
