Sifuna reacts to TIFA poll ranking him second most preferred presidential candidate for 2027
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, July 25, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has reacted to the latest TIFA opinion poll that ranked him as the second most preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the findings reflect the growing support enjoyed by the Linda Mwananchi movement across the country.
Speaking during an interview with Western media outlets on Friday, July 24, 2026, Sifuna said the survey shows President William Ruto’s support remains well below the constitutional threshold required to win a presidential election in the first round. He argued that a united opposition would comfortably defeat Ruto in the next election.
“From what I know, the Linda Mwananchi coalition or movement currently enjoys massive support across our country because of the issues we stand for,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna says Ruto would fall short of constitutional threshold
He noted that the TIFA poll placed President Ruto at 24 per cent support, saying this indicates the president would fail to secure re-election if elections were held today.
“This survey says William Ruto has the support of only 24 per cent. That tells you that if an election were held today, he would lose because our Constitution requires a candidate to attain 50 per cent plus one vote. If you fail to reach that threshold, you are going home,” he stated.
Calls for opposition unity ahead of 2027
Sifuna added that successive opinion polls suggest the opposition stands a strong chance of winning the presidency if it remains united behind a single candidate.
“Based on the surveys and statistics that continue to be released, it is clear that if the opposition unites, we will send President William Ruto home,” he said.

TIFA noted that Ruto’s support has remained relatively stable over the past year, despite political realignments and increased activity by opposition leaders.
“Although opposition support remains fragmented, Sifuna has recorded the fastest rise among opposition figures, increasing from virtually no support in 2025 to 15% in June 2026, positioning him among the leading opposition contenders,” the poll stated.
