Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has openly challenged the police to come and risk breaking up the Linda Mwananchi rally, held by the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) at the Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County.

Speaking to thousands of supporters at the Tononoka Grounds on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Sifuna made it clear that he was prepared for any attempt to disrupt the rally, especially using teargas, as had occurred at previous Linda Mwananchi gatherings.

“Kwa sababu mmenizoea. Kama uko na teargas, hii ndio nafasi yako. Kabla niendelee, kama umetumwa na teargas lipua saa hii. Leo hawana? Wamejua mko rada? Walituambia hatuwezi ingia Tononoka. Hapa ni wapi? “Sifuna Said.

His remarks translated as “Because they are used to me.’ If you have teargas, this is your opportunity. Before I proceed, if you have been sent tear gas, lob it. Today they don’t have it; they have known you are ready. They told us that we cannot access Tononoka. Where is here?”

Disruption of Linda Mwananchi’s events

Sifuna’s remarks came amid growing tension between the Linda Mwananchi faction and local authorities, with past rallies facing police restrictions and teargas deployment. The senator’s bold statement underlined the faction’s determination to hold peaceful political gatherings despite the pressure.

The Tononoka Grounds rally attracted a large turnout, reflecting strong local support for the Linda Mwananchi faction within the ODM Party. Sifuna’s defiance signalled a readiness to stand firm against what he described as attempts to intimidate the group or limit their political expression.

Sifuna’s daring challenge could escalate confrontations with law enforcement, but it also showcased his influence and the mobilisation capacity of the Linda Mwananchi faction.

By openly daring the police, Sifuna reinforced the message that their movement would not be easily subdued and that their supporters were resolute in defending their right to assemble, saying that no people were sent to disrupt the meeting, owing to the fact that no teargas was lobbed into the air to disrupt the meeting.

As the rally continued peacefully, Sifuna’s speech resonated strongly with attendees, leaving no doubt about his commitment to leading and protecting the faction’s political activities, even under the threat of police interference or teargas.
