The Linda Mwananchi movement led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has raised Ksh2,210,836.82 within 36 hours after launching a public fundraising drive to support its activities.

A campaign dashboard shared on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, showed the movement had surpassed the Ksh 2.2 million mark, with organisers thanking Kenyans for responding to the appeal.

“As it stands, tumefika ksh 2,210,836.82 in 36hrs…and counting. Asanteni sana to everyone who contributed,” the movement posted on X.

The fundraising drive followed Sifuna’s appeal on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, urging Kenyans to contribute from as little as Ksh 10.

Earlier figures released by the senator showed the campaign had raised Ksh519,144 from 9,419 contributors, with donations ranging from Ksh1 to Ksh5,000.

Grassroots fundraising drive

The movement is receiving contributions through M-Pesa Paybill 3033049, which is temporarily registered under “E. Sifuna” as Linda Mwananchi is yet to be registered as a political party.

Speaking during an interview, Sifuna said every contribution would be accounted for publicly.

“We are not looking to enrich ourselves. We do not need too much money. What we need is to cover the logistics of attending some of these meetings,” he said.

He added that the fundraising initiative is intended to support the movement’s activities without relying on wealthy financiers.

According to Sifuna, transparency in fundraising remains a key priority, with supporters expected to receive updates on how the money is spent.

How the funds will be used

The money raised will support mobilisation activities across the country, including political meetings and other operational expenses.

Sifuna said the funds will also cater for payments to service providers during events and welfare support where necessary.

Organisers have already used part of the contributions to assist a family in Kisii after a supporter died during one of the movement’s rallies.

Sifuna also disclosed that one of the movement’s largest events, held in Kisumu, cost about Ksh 2.6 million because of additional security requirements.

The senator maintained that the movement’s operations depend on support from ordinary Kenyans.

Looking ahead

The fundraising campaign comes as Linda Mwananchi continues to expand its activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna has dismissed reports linking the movement to Jubilee, saying Linda Mwananchi remains an independent citizen-driven initiative.

“Tangu Senator @edwinsifuna achape show asubuhi, Kenyans of goodwill have done the thing!!” read one of the messages shared after the fundraising figures were released.

The latest fundraising update places the movement among the political initiatives embracing small individual contributions to finance operations.

With more contributions continuing to come in, the campaign says it will maintain public accountability for all funds received as it prepares for activities across the country.
