Removal as ODM SG

In a significant shake-up, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, announced that it had relieved Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of his duties with immediate effect.

Speaking in Mombasa, the committee announced that Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo will serve in an acting capacity until a substantive office holder is elected.

“The Party National Executive Committee meeting in Mombasa today has resolved to relieve SG @edwinsifuna of his responsibilities with immediate effect,” ODM stated.

The move comes after months of internal tensions within the party. Sifuna, who is known for his staunch ODM membership, had also faced criticism over opposing a pact between the government, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and the Orange Democratic Movement, which has been seen as being disrespectful to the party leadership.

Sifuna’s removal has sparked a debate from leaders and the public on the ODM party and the deepening wrangles within the party.

Sifuna is now expected to make his next move after his removal as the Secretary General of the ODM party. He is expected to announce his move during the press release.
