Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has once again stirred the political waters with a bold declaration of intent as the 2027 presidential race draws closer. In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the first-term lawmaker and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) member announced that he is fully prepared to outshine his political rivals.

“Nitanyorosha hawa wote. All my mathematics are in place to outshine them politically. The wave is coming,” Salasya posted on X on Monday July 28, 2025, suggesting that his campaign strategy is not only well calculated but already in motion.

This latest declaration adds to a growing list of passionate appeals and confident proclamations by the youthful legislator, who is determined to be Kenya’s next president. On several occasions, Salasya has underscored that his journey from a tough childhood to Parliament has equipped him with the grit and humility required for high office.

From hardship to hope

In a heartfelt Instagram reflection on July 24, 2027, Salasya opened up about his life struggles, including working night shifts at jaggeries, going through school with minimal support, and later joining Egerton University. There, he began to understand the essence of servant leadership through community service and student leadership.

“I was well moulded by going through harsh life, which taught me to use any opportunity given by God for His glory,” he said, adding that his past taught him to lead with humility rather than power.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Salasya believes his economic background uniquely qualifies him to lead Kenya through its current financial struggles. In June, he declared that among all the serious presidential hopefuls, he is the only one with academic training directly relevant to reviving the economy.

“Kenya needs a leader who understands how to manage public debt, grow industries, stabilise inflation, and create sustainable youth employment, not just speak English and quote the Constitution,” he stated.
