Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to leave ODM, claiming the party has already sidelined him and is celebrating his political decline.

In a statement on his X account on Friday, July 3, 2026, Salasya said he has repeatedly advised Sifuna to abandon the party after being removed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

“Go stand in front of that mirror today and take a long, hard look at the decisions you have been making,” Salasya said, adding that Sifuna’s actions before and after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had been marked by “glaring and exhausting” double standards.

Sifuna’s walk-away chance

Salasya also revisited the launch of the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying he had initially believed Sifuna and his allies were preparing to chart an independent political path after opposing the broad-based government arrangement.

“I congratulated you publicly for finally standing tall and saying a firm NO to the broad-based sellout. I thought this was the moment you would walk away from ODM with your head high, building something real for the people,” he said.

According to Salasya, Sifuna failed to seize that opportunity and instead continued fighting to retain the Secretary-General position, despite what he described as the party’s decision to remove him.

“You don’t hold the systems of the party anymore. You should have walked away the very day they showed you the door,” he said.

Salasya further claimed ODM leaders were privately celebrating Sifuna’s political troubles and warned that remaining in the party would only worsen his prospects.

“ODM is dancing, celebrating your downfall behind closed doors. They want to finish you off completely. The earlier you had left, the better for your political career,” he stated.

Sifuna’s removal from ODM

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) recently removed Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General following a party disciplinary process that endorsed recommendations of its internal dispute resolution committee.

Speaking on Monday, June 22, 2026, ODM interim Secretary General Catherine Omanyo said the decision followed a review conducted in line with the party constitution.

“The party’s internal dispute resolution committee that was constituted in accordance with Article 51-3-F of the party constitution heard and determined the complaint concerning Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna in his capacity as the Secretary-General,” Omanyo said.

She added that the National Executive Committee (NEC) adopted the committee’s findings and recommendations without dissent.
