Mumias East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has taken on his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi for claiming that President William Ruto has stabilised Kenya’s economy.

Sudi, while speaking at a traditional function in Kapsokwony in Mt Elgon, Bungoma county on Thursday, December 5, stated that the prices of most of the commodities that were high when Ruto took power have since fallen.

The controversial lawmaker listed the prices of maize flour and the depreciation of the dollar rate as some of the achievements President Ruto has made to stabilize the economy.

However, Salasya holds a different opinion. The first term lawmaker has faulted Sudi, arguing that he should not only base of the prices of maize flour and depreciation of the dollar to determine the state of the country’s economy.

Salasya on prices of commodities

According to Salasya, the prices of construction materials such as cement and steel metals which which were somehow lower when President Ruto took power, have since skyrocketed.

Salasya also says that the pay slips of the employed Kenyans have been greatly affected, urging the government to have mercy.

“Let us put our friendship aside kidogo tu nikuulize mweshree suduree …unga ni sawa dollar ni sawa but tell me simiti mulipata ikiwa ksh 650 sahizi ni kah 930 per bag ,chuma ya D16 for example mulipata ikiwa 1200 sahizi ni 2000 si ata nyinyi munaona munaibia wakenya na munawadanya …ata ile mbolea yenyu ya 2500 sijai pata market I only buy ya 5000 plus per bag ….na hii pay slip ya wakenya muliipata ikiwa aje na munaicha ikiwa aje.

“Let us have mercy on this innocent Kenyans for once. Let us not focus just on unga and dollar also putting in mind the international trends on the strength of the dollar globally. We shall have friendship but on key issues we shall always have a discussion with interest of Kenyans and not just populist politics,” Salasya stated.

Sudi’s statement

Sudi while making his remarks had also claimed that there has been a lot of propaganda against the government that has been fueled by the high level of tribalism.

“Nataka niwaombe, nchi yetu inaongozwa na propaganda mingi sana. Na nataka niseme nikiwa hapa Mt Elgon, mnajua watu wengi wamekuwa wakikashifu serikali ya Kenya Kwanza, na ukweli wa mambo, hiyo mambo yote ni ukabila. William Ruto alipata hii serikali unga ikiwa Ksh25o, leo unga ni Ksh90, alipata dollar ikiwa Ksh164 leo dollar ni Ksh127. Alipata mambo mingi imeharibika lakini ametengeneza,” Sudi said.
