Salasya: I will be Kenya’s first president from Western
Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has declared that he will be the first president of Kenya from the Luhya community.
Speaking during a funeral in his constituency on Monday, September 22, 2025, Salasya said his popularity across the country was growing rapidly, likening his reception in different regions to that of established national leaders.
“Anajulikana Kenya mzima; akienda Mombasa anakuwa kama akina Raila, akienda Isiolo anakuwa kama akina Raila na Kina Ruto. President wa Kwanza kutoka western Kenya atakuwa Peter Salasya,” he declared.
His remarks come months after he announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 general election, positioning himself as a fresh voice for a more inclusive and accountable Kenya.
Salasya’s presidential bid
Speaking on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Salasya said he will launch his bid under a new political movement that is yet to be named but promises to break away from traditional politics driven by tribal alliances and money.
“Fellow Kenyans, I will contest the presidency in 2027 under a new movement—one built on the dreams of a fair, inclusive, and forward-looking Kenya,” Salasya said.
“This will not be a party of billionaires or tribal lords, but a movement of the people. Let us make 2027 the year of Kenya’s rebirth,” he urged. “Let’s turn frustration into hope, despair into opportunity, and anger into action.”
If elected, Salasya pledged sweeping reforms, beginning with the healthcare system.

He promised to audit healthcare funding and ensure transparency and accountability, declaring that “health is not a luxury; it is a right.”
He also vowed to take a hard stance on corruption, describing it as “economic sabotage.”
“Every procurement will be done through a transparent, digital, and traceable system. Anti-corruption agencies will be empowered, and looters will be swiftly and justly held accountable,” he said.
On education and youth empowerment, Salasya promised to expand and modernise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, strengthen digital literacy, and ensure all government departments offer mandatory internships and graduate trainee programmes.
“No degree should gather dust. No young dream should die due to hopelessness,” he stated.
