President William Ruto has announced a five-day working tour of the Coast region beginning July 27, 2023, covering Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Tana River Counties.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 26, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the tour will focus on inaugurating, commissioning, and inspecting government projects.

“Emphasis on projects in the Blue Economy and Fisheries sector in Mukowe, Ngao, Ukunda and Mombasa with grants worth over Ksh552 million to be issued to common interest groups,” Mohamed said.

Ruto will also commission a fish landing site in Kilifi and also issue identification documents to the Pemba community and title deeds in the county.

The President will also lead a rededication ceremony for Kenya Navy Ship Shupavu, the first warship refitted locally and also launch a local vehicle assembly line.

President Ruto is also scheduled to meet port users and other port stakeholders and also commission the rehabilitated Sailoni headworks and rubber dam.

He will also inspect the ongoing rehabilitation of water delivery systems and farm restoration works at the Tana Delta Irrigation Project (TDIP).

“TDIP project aims to open up 12,000 hectares of land for rice irrigation and reduce rice imports by 35%,” Mohamed added.

He is also set to hold meetings with local leaders and residents of the region.
