President William Ruto has continued his attacks on opposition principal Kalonzo Musyoka, solely blaming him for failing to secure meaningful development in his area while serving as vice president.

In a dismissive remark aimed at the former vice president, whom he referred to as “that person from Tseikuru.”, during a UDA grassroots meeting with Nyeri leaders on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Ruto warned against entrusting leadership to such individuals.

According to Ruto, The wiper leader only needed to respectfully ask his boss, the former president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, to fix the road leading to his home in Tseikuru, but he failed to do so.

Fixing the road

“If Kalonzo had respectfully asked Kibaki to tarmac that road leading to his home, would Kibaki not have done it?” he posed. “He would have gotten the road done. The problem is about putting your brain to use.”

Ruto added that he himself was the Agriculture Minister during Kibaki’s tenure and frequently visited the area for church and agricultural activities.

“On his part, he never did anything. He was merely hanging around, not doing anything meaningful—not joining Harambees or getting anything done, including roads leading to his home.”

“If such a person cannot even have the brains to plan how to get the road leading to his own home done, how can he think of improving roads leading to others’? Let us not fool ourselves,” he concluded.

His remarks come as Kalonzo also fired a salvo at the president over his insincerity regarding his relationship with the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Betrayers of Raila

In a statement while meeting a delegation from Murang’a at his home on the same day, Kalonzo addressed the impending political deal between the ODM party and Ruto’s UDA.

Musyoka said it was dishonest for ODM leaders to now claim they share a common vision with Ruto, who he stated was instrumental in denying Raila the presidency, in addition to branding him as a mganga, or“ule mtu wa vitendawili”, and vowing to politically sideline him with the phrase“tutamsafirisha hadi Bondo”.

“You cannot rewrite history, and you cannot sanitise betrayal,” Musyoka wrote in reference to past remarks made by Ruto and his allies against Raila,

The verbal onslaught is an escalation in the feud between the two leaders, which has centred on Ruto’s faulting Kalonzo’s development records in Ukambani as the latter fingered Ruto for the leadership challenges incidental to his tenure.
