As the opposition camp continues to consolidate its camp and numbers, President William Ruto has also started preparing his supporters for the battle ahead.

While winding up his two-day Narok tour on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the head of state moved to allay any fears that he was not prepared to face off against the new political battalion, which his former principal assistant, Rigathi Gachagua, is among those assembling.

Ruto assured his supporters that at the right time, he would enter the political arena ready to take on the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

“Do not be worried, these other people; I will deal with them in the coming days, and they will not believe it,” Ruto told his supporters while insisting he was still focused on fulfilling his pledges to the people first.

Defeat them by dawn

His sentiments were echoed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who announced that Kenya Kwanza will defeat the opposition come 2027 by dawn.

He accused them of aligning along tribal lines instead of selling their agenda to the electorate.

“They are convening meetings to discuss ethnicity. Tell those people we are ready for them when the campaign period comes, we will finish them very early in the morning,” Kindiki stated.

Must go agenda

His latest message came days after he also blasted the opposition leaders, asking them to provide an alternative development plan, noting that it is unwise to rely on outdated and regressive political practices.

He bashed them, saying ‘must go’ was not an agenda.

“Kenyans want to know what your plan is. Must Go is not enough. Must Go is not an agenda,” he said.

Ruto took comfort in the fact that Kenyans are intelligent and capable of distinguishing development-oriented leaders from those who promote hate, division, and tribalism.

Opposition

Plans to make Ruto a one-term president gained momentum following the official entry of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i into the opposition side.

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Matiang’i joined Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa at Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri.

Speaking at the event, Matiang’i promised to restore trust in government and its ability to deliver.

“I pledge to streamline and clean up this country, and restore the faith of people in government so they can trust it again; that a government official can tell you something and you will trust them,” he told the crowd.
