Ruto, Mudavadi to grace ODM 20th anniversary celebrations – Junet
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 13, 2025Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has announced that President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi are among the top dignitaries expected to attend the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
While speaking while in Nairobi before heading to Mombasa on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Junet said the event will bring together the founding members of ODM for a special founders’ dinner to mark two decades since the party’s establishment.

He explained that all the key figures who played a role in founding ODM in 2005 have been invited to attend, though he noted that it is still uncertain whether former President Uhuru Kenyatta will be present at the high-profile occasion, with ODM pentagon members also expected to attend.

“So we are going to have His Excellency, the President, at the dinner. We are going to have Musalia Mudavadi, and we are going to have the former Pentagon members. We are going to have Uhuru Kenyatta if he is available,” Junet stated.
Junet pointed out that the decision to hold the celebrations in Mombasa was intentional, describing the region as one of ODM’s most loyal political strongholds since the introduction of devolution.
He said the choice reflects the party’s deep roots across the country, stretching from the Indian Ocean coastline to the lake region, the Northeastern, and Nairobi.

Purpose of the celebration
According to Junet, the celebrations are open to all Kenyans but are primarily meant for ODM members to reflect on the party’s 20-year journey.
He said the event will highlight the milestones achieved by the party since its formation, as well as its contribution to the country’s democratic and reform agenda.
Junet also noted that the celebrations will honour the party’s founding leader, Raila Amolo Odinga, whose political vision and leadership have been instrumental in shaping ODM’s identity and influence.

He said the founders’ dinner will be attended by long-serving party stalwarts, including former secretary-general Anyang’ Nyong’o and other leaders who were instrumental in ODM’s growth across the country.
Junet added that the event will bring together both former and current party officials, underscoring ODM’s position as one of the few political movements in Kenya with a truly national character.
He described the upcoming anniversary as an opportunity for the party to celebrate its achievements, reaffirm its values, and set the tone for its future direction.
