Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has announced that his party will be holding a National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Saturday, May 24, 2026.

In a radio interview on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the outspoken presidential hopeful, despite declaring that he belongs to the “Wantam” movement, invited everyone from both sides of the political divide to attend his party’s event.

Wajackoyah also extended the invitation to President William Ruto, urging him to attend the NDC, saying that his party is the only one allowing outsiders to attend.

“So I don’t want to speak politics today because I’ve got my NDC on Saturday, and that’s why I’m a bit laid back. We shall give our policies on that particular day. I’ve invited everybody. I’ve invited all the political leaders in the opposition, and I’ve also invited the government. We need to sit down and let them come and air their views. Even the president is invited,” he said.

He further stated that he still harbours presidential ambitions and that in 2027 he will be on the ballot.

Wajackoya’s bid

This came a few weeks after Wajackoyah confirmed a solo path for the 2027 general elections, distancing his party from emerging political alliances and the United Opposition front.

Speaking during an interview with a local station on Monday, March 16, 2026, the former presidential contender emphasised that the Roots Party remains an independent entity, focused solely on its relationship with the electorate rather than boardroom coalitions.

“I’m working with the Roots Party, and the Roots Party is working with the people of Kenya. Roots Party is registered under the political parties as Roots Party and is working for the nation, for the people of this Republic,” Wajackoyah stated.

Wajackoyah further said that his party’s legal status as a registered group under the Political Parties Act means that it can not be merged with other groups unless there is a strategic, party-led mandate.

Wajackoyah said that his main goal is still to become president, even though there are a lot of candidates. He confirmed that his message still resonated with people who were unhappy with the usual political divide.
