Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has said that the current ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna will exit the party before the end of November this year.

Taking to his X handle on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Alai claimed that Sifuna’s time in ODM was coming to an end, alleging that the outspoken senator had personal and political issues that had put him at odds with the party’s direction after the death of the late Raila Odinga.

Robert Alai describes Sifuna’s problems

Alai said that Sifuna had “three problems” that, in his view, made his position in the Orange Democratic Movement untenable.

“Sifuna won’t stay in ODM beyond November. We wish him well. Anacheza! Sifuna has two problems. In fact, there are three,” Alai wrote.

He went on to accuse Sifuna of stage-managing his recent interviews to avoid hard questions about his loyalty to ODM and his relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

Alai further alleged that Sifuna had developed bitterness toward President Ruto after the Head of State allegedly refused to pay him Ksh50 million to support the idea of a broad-based government.

“Why should Sifuna be paid to support an idea? Anyone loyal to money isn’t loyal to any cause,” he wrote.

According to Alai, Sifuna’s constant criticism of President Ruto was misplaced and politically shortsighted.

“He thinks his primary role is overseeing Ruto and talking about him all day. He has never seen anything wrong with the Nairobi County government,” Alai stated.

Sifuna’s remarks during Raila’s funeral

The ODM Secretary General, who was among the key speakers during the state funeral of the late Raila Odinga in Bondo, had earlier defended the party’s integrity and urged members to stay united.

“Mimi nataka niseme kwamba Baba alikuwa anasikiza wananchi. Nataka ku-encourage wanachama wa ODM.

“Sasa tunyamaze tusikize wananchi wanasema nini. Baba alizungumza wazi tarehe ishirini na mbili mwezi uliopita mbele ya hawa wabunge, aliongea kwa kinywa chake mwenyewe, naomba viongozi msiingize maneno kwa mdomo ya mtu ambaye amelala,” Sifuna said.

His words were seen as a call for restraint and unity within ODM even as internal cracks began to show following the death of the party’s longtime leader.
