President William Ruto has continued to drum support for his newly reconstituted Cabinet which is waiting for parliament’s vetting for approval.

Speaking on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Kwale County, the Head of State debunked claims that the newly nominated Cabinet will spark division in the country.

President Ruto told Kwale County residents that no region or political affiliation will sink into losses following his latest move of forming a broad-based government.

While defending his decision, President Ruto stated that the country stands to gain a lot if the nominated Cabinet Secretaries are cleared to head their respective ministry.

2022 elections precedent

According to President Ruto, the 2022 Presidential Election set a precedent in the country’s political discourse by eliminating the issue of tribalism and regional affiliations.

Ruto thus implored other leaders to rally behind his government and support inclusivity which he affirmed is key to proper development.

“In 2022, we had a historic election that decided we shall never again go parochial. We are not going to have tribal politics in Kenya, we are not going to have regional politics in Kenya, we are going to unite as a people,” Ruto stated.

“I want every citizen and every leader that there is value in us uniting and working together towards making Kenya great. There will be no loser, we will all become winners, that is why we are forming a government of win-win and I want to say that as we form this Cabinet, we are going to change our country,” the Head of State insisted.

His sentiments come amid a political storm in Azimio over the nomination of four Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stalwarts to Cabinet. Narc-Kenya led by Martha Karua already filed a notice seeking to exit the coalition.

On the other side, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s led faction emphasised that it will not collaborate with Ruto’s government through his broad-based Cabinet analogy.

Within ODM, some leaders led by Siaya Governor James Orengo have opposed the move to work with Ruto.

“It will be absolute treachery and an act of political cannibalism to ignore the cry of our youth at this critical time in this country,” Orengo stated.

Gachagua’s rant

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also hit at unnamed political leaders who he said took advantage of the protests to settle political scores.

Without mentioning their names, Gachagua referred to those leaders as idiots.

“Let us remain united as a country, we have just gone through very difficult periods….those who took advantage of well intentioned peaceful protests to loot property to steal, to hurt, those are idiots; Those who are more idiotic are those who tried to take advantage of the whole scenario to settle political scores with those they don’t support or have a problem with…..trying to push on blame. Let people know that Kenyans are intelligent people. People of this country have come of age, they see from far they analyse and they know,” Gachagua said.

Raila’s men fronted for CS posts

Ruto nominated ODM chairman John Mbadi to the Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning and the Leader of the Minority side in Parliament Opiyo Wandayi to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

ODM Deputy Party Leader and former Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho has been nominated to the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.

Former Kakamega County Governor who is also the ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya has been nominated to the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development.
