President William Ruto was yesterday on a second day tour of Mt Kenya region, inspecting and commissioning development projects in Ol Jororok and Ol Kalou constituencies, Nyandarua county.

During the tour, Ruto vowed to weed out corrupt persons in the Judiciary whom he accused of being used to sabotage his development agenda.

“Our housing projects have employed over 120,000 youth. If someone goes to court to stop this project, where do they want me to take these youth,” he said. Ruto said that he would not give space to corrupt judicial officers to disenfranchise Kenyans.

“I will deal with corruption in our courts. Personally, I won’t got giving bribes in court for my projects to go through because of cunning people who alongside their wives and children have jobs and do not know the pain of sleeping hungry and going bare foot,” he said.

The President began his day at the Nakuru State House where he held a meeting with Jubilee Party politicians led by nominated MP Sabina Chege accompanied over 120 MCAs. In Ol Jororok, the President commissioned Boiman-Kwa Mumbi road where he reiterated that the main challenge to the Kenyan government is foreign debt.

“For every ten shillings collected as revenue, Sh7 goes to pay foreign debt. We had to come up with strategies to save the country from plunging into a debt crisis,” said Ruto. He added that for the last one year, the financial strategies adopted by the Kenya Kwanza administration had paid up.

“We are now in a position to say that we can pay all our debts and grow our economy. We are ready to now push our development agenda forward,” said Ruto.

He reiterated that on the critical role the improvement of the country’s infrastructure will play in boosting the economy which was that brink of collapse. “Our economy is largely built on agriculture. With good roads, our farm produce will be delivered to the market with ease and at low cost,” he said.

The President noted that his administration was committed to make the affordable housing program work for the country through decent housing and job creation.

“We have plans to develop affordable houses across the country. The impact shall be on improving the quality of life of our people and the economy through the millions of jobs created in the larger construction industry,” he said.

Ruto slammed at litigants whom he termed as the stumbling block in the country’s development allegedly by use of court injunctions corruptly obtained.

“A few people have made us lag behind and are the profiteers of every crisis witnessed today. People who have jobs, people who have money, are buying lawyers and bribing courts so that the poor can remain poor and serving them. I won’t allow that,” said Ruto.

He added that he had urged the Judiciary to also act on the best interest of all Kenyans. “I told the Judiciary that there is no way we can stop a program like that of Housing. This is a program that was in our manifesto, anchored in law. It can’t be stopped just because one or two people have gone to court,” said the President.

“I am also asking the Judiciary, please, humbly, give us a chance to change Kenya. We now have a government that is deliberate about changing the face of Kenya,” he added. He added that his determination for the success of universal health coverage will not be stopped by courts.

“Those who are in court to stop SHIF, mambo yenu ni matatu. Tutamalizana na nyinyi. I will be the lawyer and defender of these ordinary Kenyans who can’t afford to bribe lawyers or courts,” he said. Ruto added that his administration was committed to create and link jobless youths to local and overseas job opportunities.
