Renowned lawyer and political analyst PLO Lumumba has called on Cabinet secretaries and other government officers to resign if they cannot perform their duties as guided by the constitution.

Lumumba has noted that there are government officials who do not deliver on their mandates, citing that they could not deliver due to interference from those in power.

Speaking on a local radio station on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, PLO has argued that there is no point in government officers continuing to continue enjoying packs that are associated with their positions when they cannot deliver on the mandates of the role given to them, citing restrictions from the appointing authority. In such an instance, PLO has advised that the best decision is to resign from the role.

“When I hear someone say, ‘My hands were tied,’ I say that’s nonsense! If your hands are tied, you resign! Your hands are tied, and you are enjoying the packs that go with the office? Your hands are tied, and during the time you are serving, you are sponsoring polls that say you are the best minister or the best Member of Parliament? What you do is to tell the president that you can no longer serve in that particular position because of reasons A, B, C and D,” Lumumba said.

The lawyer has further argued that the country did not understand the confines of the new constitution that was adopted in 2010, under which the country is supposed to operate.

He has pointed out this as the reason that the political class has embarked on other laws generated outside the constitution, yet the issues raised in those documents are provided for in the constitution.

Lumumba has cited examples of BBI, NADCO Report and the 10-Points agenda as documents generated while what they advocate for is provided in the constitution.

Lumumba has further criticised the increased cases of corruption in Kenya, where leaders are engaged in the looting of public funds, terming it as inappropriate.
