The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) secretary for planning and economic affairs, Peter Mbae, has stated that President William Ruto is aware of shifting political support ahead of his 2027 presidential bid.

Speaking during an interview with a local station on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Mbae suggested that the president’s political calculations are informed by raw intelligence and that internal assessments indicate a widening political gap.

“I can tell you this. The law is very clear; the Constitution outlines the circumstances under which an election can be postponed,” he said.

Declining support

According to Mbae, President Ruto’s political ground is already shifting, suggesting that government figures are aware of declining support.

“He knows the numbers are gone. The gap of four to five million is real,” he said.

Speaking at State House during the UDA National Governing Council (NGC) meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, Ruto said lessons from past political turbulence had informed the formation of the current broad-based government, which he described as a success.

“As we talk today, we have a broad-based government arrangement. Tulikuwa na matatizo, makelele, fujo, na maandamano, na tukasema in every challenge, there is a silver lining, and there is an opportunity if you look carefully. In that challenge, we decided to create an opportunity out of it,” Ruto said.

“Today, we have a broad-based government with our friends the ODM party, and we have agreed that this broad-based government has worked. It is said that if it is working, don’t fix it,” he said.
